Yoga Teacher Training - 3 week intensive course
NEW three week course structure
Here in North Wales we are now offering a Dru Yoga teacher training course, specially designed for those who want to be able to teach within a shorter time. The course consists of two 22 day modules over two years, based at Snowdonia Mountain Lodge.
The first 22 day module (17th July – 8th August 2012) covers the first half of the teacher training course syllabus, and you will have the opportunity to take your interim assessment before the end of the course. If you have completed all the required elements and passed this assessment, you may begin teaching as a student Dru Yoga teacher. The second 22 day module will be taught in the summer of 2013 in North Wales.
This special course consists of blocks of five days of training, followed by a day off, although the precise timetable may be changed according to the needs of the group. During your days off, you are free to explore the area, walk in the mountains or just enjoy pampering therapies (at extra cost) at the centre. In every teaching block, we will include walks and relaxation, which may include outdoor yoga and meditation practice, weather permitting. Depending on the needs of the students, the tutors may need to change the structure of the course.
A typical day on the course might look like this:
7.30 Yoga, meditation and pranayama
9.00 Breakfast break
10.15 Dru Yoga postures, sequences
11.45 Tea break
12.00 Dru Yoga postures, sequences
13.15 Lunch break and time to walk in the valley
15.00 Teaching practice, tutorials, study time and assignments
16.30 Teaching practice, the power of relaxation
18.45 Supper break
19.30 Optional therapies and mentoring (at extra cost) or walk in the valley
The schedule will be both challenging and deeply rewarding. Your tutors are highly experienced and will give you a thorough insight into: the essential foundations of Dru Yoga, body preps, postures, sequences & alignment, anatomy and physiology, the subtle energy flow within yoga asanas, unique Energy Block Release sequences (EBRs), pranayama – the science of breath, chakras or energy centres, therapeutic Dru Yoga, the art of relaxation, meditation, mantras, mudras and yogic philosophy.
Where and when
The course will be held from 17th July – 8th August 2012 at the Dru International Training Centre, Snowdonia Mountain Lodge, Nant Ffrancon, Bethesda, Gwynedd LL57 3LX. Arrive for dinner at 6:45 pm on the first day and depart after lunch on the last day at 2:30 pm.
The location is a perfect one to enjoy a yoga training experience. Snowdonia Mountain Lodge, the home of Dru courses, is one of the UK’s most beautiful locations. Enjoy panoramic views of the Nant Ffrancon valley in this stunning environment. Towering mountains rise on either side, and from your bedroom window you can see the changing light dancing over the fields, and listen to the sheep and lambs in the surrounding fields. The peace monument's water feature is a relaxing place to sit and soak up the sunshine, or you can meditate by a mountain stream. Teaching sessions are held in our spacious yoga hall, and in between classes you can browse through our extensive yoga shop.
Easily accessible by rail and road, Snowdonia Mountain Lodge is located on the A5 (the historic main route from London to Ireland), 8 miles from Bangor and 3 ½ hours' train ride from London. The nearest airports are Liverpool or Manchester, and are easily accessible by train or taxi from the Lodge.
Course fees
We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for you to train as a Dru Yoga teacher.
The full cost of tuition, course books and administration for each 22 day module is payable as follows:
Option 1 - 3 quarterly payments of £500 (payable in full before you arrive) – £1500
Option 2 – Payable by bank transfer or cheque - £1500
In addition, there is a one-off registration fee of £200, which you need to pay to secure your place once your application has been accepted. If you complete the course, this non-refundable fee will be taken from the cost of your second module in 2013.
At the end of the second part of the course in 2013, final assessments are in the form of a presentation of a short Dru Yoga class. On most of our courses in the UK, these are organised outside of normal course days, at an additional cost of £50. These prices are correct for 2011, but may increase with cost increases.
Residential Fees
If you wish to stay at Snowdonia Mountain Lodge in comfortable 3 star ensuite accommodation (sharing a twin or double room), then residential fees are £55 per day. Residential fees include shared accommodation, continental breakfast, delicious vegetarian lunch and dinner and refreshments during breaks. We have a limited number of single rooms available on payment of a supplement of £25 per day.
If you wish to stay at the bunk house next door (shared dormitories with bunk beds), please contact Gwyn on 01248 601 958 or email gwyn.morgan979@btinternet.com. Prices are £12.50 per night. You may choose to do your own cooking at the bunkhouse or purchase meals at Snowdonia Mountain Lodge: breakfast (£5), lunch (£10) and dinner (£10).
Career opportunities
If you are thinking of teaching yoga, this is one of the most exciting times in the history of Yoga. Medical research has now demonstrated the value of yoga for more than 40 major diseases, and health and wellbeing policy-makers are increasingly turning to yoga as a solution to our nation’s spiralling health costs. In many ways there has never been a better time to train as a yoga teacher.
